There are two ways to ensure that these hidden files become visible on your device, allowing you to delete any unneeded content stored locally. Some files on your Mac computer are hidden by default, which makes locating them impossible unless you have the right settings. This article goes in-depth about how you can efficiently free up space by deleting these unneeded types of files off your Mac.
USE OMNIDISKSWEEPER HOW TO
If you don’t know how to find duplicate files, large files, and hidden files on your Mac, you’ve come to the right place. Locating and getting rid of large, unnecessary files is one of the best ways to get this task accomplished.

Whether you want to install a new application, back your iPhone up, or simply want your Mac device to perform better, you need to make sure you have enough available space. The best tool is going to be knowing OSX and the utilities within OSX like activity monitor, console, terminal, and very, very importantly disk utility.

I do more with disk utility than I do with any other software tool because there is so much you can do with it.

Best part, is it is on every OSX installer and system. But knowing OSX is going to make disk utility a very powerful tool. If you don't know it, than disk utility is pretty much useless. Only other things I'd mention are 10.5.6, 10.6.3, 10.7, and 10.8 retail installers (preferably loaded on a multi partition HDD to boot externally using either usb or firewire). Also on the drive, 10.5.8, 10.6.8, 10.7.4, and 10.8.x fully updated retail OSX installions. The only other thing besides that is DiskWarrior (very powerful tool to use with caution if you don't understand it). There are other tools available you could have access being an ACMT or better yet an AASP with GSX access. Software Update: I know, however if really does make a differenceĬonsole for review of error logs: Found in the Applications/utilies folder or use Spotlight (Command + Spacebar) Very good for the small general maintenance that makes a difference for a Mac ( As this is only my 2nd Post I have had to remove the links to the software, Google is Your Friend !) But unless you are doing warranty repairs or hardware repairs, you may not find them useful.

You could probably break your computer very quickly in Single User mode. Very useful if you have a problem and need an environment where you don’t want unnecessary things loaded. If you are having really bad problems this may be a good lead to follow.
